BRADY'S "NEW" ANTI-NOISE / THREADED HEX rotary drill steel was developed for use with the BRADY CERAMIC roof drill bits to be used in the Hard Rock mines to replace
percussion drills and bits. The compressive strength of the rock in the test mines, ranged from 20,000 psi to 40,000 psi and contained 45% to 70 % silica. Long drill steels, i.e 88" to 123", were required for drilling at the various mines. The
drill steel required, had to have exceptional strength and remain straight under high thrust drilling conditions. The drill steel also needed to be alloyed such that it had excellent fatigue strength to attain long life. The final consideration was to
have a drill steel with NOISE dampened characteristics. This was achieved with the BRADY BPO (Pin-On Shank) drill steel which was assembled with noise dampening materials incorporated into the shank design.
Testing was completed in the Hard Rock
mines and the BPO drill steel was introduced to the Coal Mines. The first test of six foot (6') BPO drill rods at a Western coal mine, with moderate roof conditions, averaged 20,000 feet per drill steel. Subsequent testing has shown similar or better
results.
BRADY'S BPO drill steel is designed to be a "Universal" drill steel such that you can drill either a 1 1/32" hole or a 1 3/8" hole by just changing out the threaded bit seat reamer and replacing it with the size needed for each drill bit.
There is NO NEED for two inventories of 7/8" and 1 1/8" drill steel.
When there is a need for "extension steel" to drill roof bolt holes, the BRADY BPO drill steel adapts to most round or hex tubular drill steel extension rods. By putting a
coupling into the BPO drill steel it is converted from a starter to a driver..
BRADY'S BPO drill steel reduces mining costs, reduces noise levels and improves the working environment.
